Our client Tabitha was introduced to us via a referral. A Court Application had been filed against her and she was needing urgent legal assistance for a Federal Court Parenting Matter. Tabitha was a mother to young children and unfortunately she was also a victim of family violence.
The extent of the family violence was difficult for the client to quantify as she was from a cultural background that made family violence hard to discern for those who belonged within that cultural setting. We had the added difficulty of the client being based in Melbourne and our service being based in Ballarat, this meant we had not met physically from the beginning of the matter to the end due to COVID restrictions.
Within a very short space of time, we had drafted all the relevant documents for our client and filed and served them on the other side. We had the client ready to proceed to Court by the Court hearing date. We were able to represent the client via Microsoft Teams as well as telephone communications both with the Court and with the Client.
In order to save the client from being ‘dragged through the Courts’ we were able to identify and negotiate Final Orders for this client within a day. This was achieved while guiding our client through the Family Law system and providing advice at each point. For most clients, Court is a dramatic and emotionally demanding proposition. However, by navigating our client, we were able to save them from the prospect of being stuck in Court for years and being consistently exposed to emotional and distressing upheaval.
