The last year has been somewhat like a rollercoaster, being in and out of lockdowns, and restrictions changing so often it was sometimes hard to keep up; the BGCLS team has once again shown resilience and achieved some fantastic results for clients.
Our team developed over the last year and we welcomed Tamar Hagazian, Monisha Sudarsanan, Adrian Tinetti, Grant Baars and Sarah Poole, while we said goodbye to Caleb Leitmanis, Erin Fradd, and Alex Stewart.
For the 20/21 year we completed 2203 services, assisting 1401 clients. This is an increase of 20% on the last year.
We continued to provide our outreach services to the Hopkins and Langi Kal Kal prisons, as well as Ararat, Stawell and Horsham Magistrates’ Court. In addition we expanded our family law outreach to the Sebastopol Maternal and Child Health Centre, enabling greater access to families.
Our remote services have become the norm and while we will eventually resume face to face services for clients, it is likely that a hybrid model will continue in the future with clients enjoying the flexibility of telephone and video-link services.
Despite the restrictions we were able to host a small number of students and volunteers this year and we look forward in the new year to welcoming back greater numbers. We thank all our volunteers and students who donated their time to support our service, their dedication is invaluable.
Finally, thank you to our team, it is through the ongoing efforts of our capable team that we have been able to continue providing quality services to our clients. I look forward to another positive year for BGCLS.
