Felicity was referred to us by the local Specialist Family Violence Court to seek pre-court advice for an interim order the Police had put in place on her behalf, against her ex-partner. Felicity was juggling full-time employment and a toddler. Felicity and her ex-partner had attempted to Co-Parent harmoniously, but Felicity noticed he was increasingly controlling. Felicity saw one of our Family Violence lawyers and proceeded to receive advice about going to Court and what to expect. She came to be engaged in the COMPASS program through a referral from the Family Violence Lawyer, to access additional supports such as family violence services. She was turned down by a few services we referred her too, due to not being in direct threat of violence since not living together. Frustratingly Felicity, contacted a number of services and finally found a caseworker who worked in unison with the lawyer and our COMPASS worker to put in place support in responding to the intervention order.
All three support services agreed that Felicity needed to build her case and place an application against her ex-partner for her protection. This was attempted to be facilitated by her caseworker and our client advocate, however due to COVID-19 all applications have to be made online and the court were not in a position to help. This became increasingly frustrating for Felicity and also her case worker who were aiming to complete this process, however Felicity became overwhelmed and no longer wanted to proceed. Felicity despite our best efforts, disengaged from our service and the support services entirely and has not proceeded with any further assistance. This is an example of how challenging Family Violence can be during this period.
